Metal Roofing Installation Instructions - Step By Step
Following metal roofing installation instructions are not hard at all. In fact, you should be more concerned with your personal safety than the installation process. Make sure that you observe the proper safety measures and guidelines when putting your project into action. Depending on your resources, metal roofing installation instructions are reasonably easy to follow for the do-it-yourselfer.
The first step in your metal roof installation process is to check with your state or city for existing local restrictions about metal roofs. You need to learn more about these to avoid violating any residential building code restrictions.
Despite the expensive price of metal roofs, these are still preferred by many because of its durability and long-lasting quality. There are actually two kinds of metal roofs: R-panel metal roofing and V-crimp metal roofing. Depending on your preference, make sure that you get your materials from trusted brands like Met-Tile, ALSCO Metals Corporation, and ArmorLite Roofing Technology.

Before installing your roof panels, take down the height measurements of your roof and any extension length that you like (the average length is two to four inches). Don’t forget to also measure around the roof edge perimeters because these will be the first things you need to take care of later. It’s not really a vital part of the process, but it’s mostly recommended that you remove the pre-existing roof slates or shingles by using a roof shovel (it’s usually for aesthetic reasons). After doing that, you could spread over a 30-pound heavy-duty tarpaper or roof paper. This will serve as a waterproofing underlayment material for your new roof system. After all the roof preparations, you are now ready to attach your metal edging material using 1-1/4 inch roofing nails. This is done all the way around the roof edges. A metal sheet that’s more than 12-inches in length is pretty difficult to lift up to the roof by yourself – you definitely need an extra pair of hands for this. The side on where you’re going to start will depend on which side you’re comfortable with. You just need to make sure that your metal roofing sheets are vertically positioned along the roof. Mark the length diagonally at each 2-feet distance using your orange chalk. This will serve as a guide on where to fix your wooden screws. After the primary metal sheet is laid down, the succeeding R-metal sheet edges will partly cover the rim of the previous. The V-crimp metal sheets will lie on top of each other. When you get to the last metal sheet, cut along the extra length just beyond the edging of the roof. The last step of the process is to attach the roof trim to envelop the sides of the roof. The middle part is usually indented to make it easier to bend the lip portion. For a successful roof remodeling, you have to carefully follow metal roofing installation instructions and use safety precautions. |
